About Me

• 30 years industrial experience: clinical pharmacologist, pharmacometrician, drug metabolism and bioanalysis; 

• Currently Executive Director of the Modeling & Simulation Group within the Early Development and Translational Sciences Department at Astellas. Previous companies include GlaxoSmithKline, Genzyme, Hoechst Marion Roussel, Eli Lilly, and Quintiles;

• PhD from Indiana University in Medical Neurobiology with an emphasis on the pharmacokinetics of drugs of abuse. MS in statistics from the University of Idaho and an MS in Pharmacology from Washington State University; 

• Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology, a Fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), and a Fellow of the International Society of Pharmacometrics (ISoP);

• Within AAPS, I was founder of the Modeling and Simulation focus group (which is now the Pharmacometrics group), was chair of the Clinical Pharmacology and Translational Research Section, and was AAPS Fellows Committee Chair.   I was awarded the AAPS Research Achievement Award in Clinical Pharmacology and Translational Research (2015);

• Served 4 years on the Board of Directors of ISoP and was treasurer for two of those years;

• Currently Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics and Associate Editor of Pharmaceutical Statistics. Served or currently serve on the editorial boards for the Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Research, and the AAPS Journal;  

• > 80 peer-reviewed publications with a h-number of 37;

• Co-editor of the 4-volume series “Pharmacokinetics in Drug Development”,

• Author of the book “Pharmacokinetic-Pharmacodynamic Modeling and Simulation, 2nd edition”, which has had over 50,000-chapter downloads since its publication; 

• And I am friends with Stacey Tannenbaum.

• Current research interests include the application of machine learning to pharmacometrics and statistical analysis of rare events in clinical trials.
